The best room in the tower was very nice. It had beautiful carpets, couches with soft cushions, and large mirrors and colorful pictures on the walls. The old man made some rice for us while I wrote a letter to the owner of the tower, apologizing for using his house for the night and thanking him. After eating the half-cooked rice, the soldiers lay down to sleep in the lower part of the building, while my dragoman and I slept in the upper room. I opened a small window to enjoy the cool air.
The Midnight Alarm
I had only been asleep for a couple of hours when my dragoman woke me up quietly and whispered, “Listen! There are horsemen outside. It’s a ‘band’!” I quietly went to the window and saw about five or six horsemen in the dark. I also noticed several men on foot trying to break open the door of the courtyard. I quickly got my revolver. My dragoman went down the narrow stairs and quietly woke the soldiers. They came up with their rifles stoletov bulgaria tours.
The Tense Moment
It seemed that someone was trying to capture me. I knew I wasn’t in real danger, except for the possibility of being hit by an accidental bullet. With our soldiers’ protection, we were more than ready to handle the six men below. We watched them in the dark for about fifteen minutes. They were struggling with the gate, talking quietly but not making much progress.
Taking Action
It started to feel boring just waiting for something to happen. I suggested to the soldiers, “Maybe they will leave if we show them we are ready for them.” Just then, one of the soldiers shouted something and fired his gun over the heads of the attackers. The horses startled at the gunshot, and the men quickly ran away. We waited a little while to see if they would return. When everything stayed quiet, I decided to lie down and go back to sleep An Unexpected Help.
The Next Morning
When morning came, I asked my dragoman how he had slept.
